Green Lakes State Park

Fayetteville, NY – Green Lakes State Park is just 20 minutes east of Syracuse and offers a variety of great outdoor recreational options year round. The park is known for its two glacial lakes Round and Green Lakes which are meromictic lakes almost 200 feet deep. There is no mixing of surface and bottom waters which produces a beautiful aquamarine color. I recommend a leisurely walk around Green Lake which is a 2.8 mile easy to handle hike.

Following your recreation, head up to the Green Lakes State Park Golf Course. This is one of Robert Trent Jones first course designs completed in 1935. If you’re a golfer, this is municipal course well-worth your time. You’ll enjoy the rolling hillside fairways cutting through the beautiful park forest. Finish your visit off by grabbing a beer at Yards Grille and plopping down on an Adirondack chair as you gaze down that emerald blue lakes. The foliage in the fall from this perch is not to be missed.
